GBC Secondary College Sport

On Saturday 17th February, Secondary sport hosted our first home game of the year. Our Sport coordinators, Mr Yates and Ms Schuler were vibrant and enthusiastic as they Boys’ Volleyballers and Girls’ Basketballers arrived at the Secondary campus. Similarly, the P&F group were on site early morning to set up the BBQ. Athletes from TSAC and Sheldon College thoroughly enjoyed a sausage sizzle, drink and music as the glorious morning unfolded. Our Senior First Boys’ Volleyball team courageously won 3-1 vs Sheldon. Our Junior Boys’ Volleyball teams are led by a current parent coach who brings knowledge and enthusiasm to the sporting program. Furthermore, we positively have Year 12 students who are imparting their passion and knowledge to our Junior students. Both our Junior Volleyball teams made improvements and developed their game awareness from Round 1. In Basketball, our Girls played against a well-structured and organised Sheldon opposition. Basketball teams didn’t play to their full potential and suffered loses across the board. Unfortunately, AFL was cancelled on Friday afternoon due to the excessive rain on the Secondary oval.

This weekend we have a BYE round with attendance at training remaining to be pivotal. On Saturday 2nd March, we play ATC/Brigidine away.

Year 3/4 Red played two games Saturday morning, the first one against Redeemer and the second match against Sheldon. TSAC students in 3/4 Red demonstrated fantastic defence and attack skills in both rounds and were able to secure the win for both matches. Year 3/4 Blue played a match against Redeemer and showed their progression with catching and throwing. The team played hard in every quarter and are continually improving each week.

Year 5/6 Blue had a close game on the weekend against Staines, the team showed exceptional skills through the mid court and defence. Our shooters for the team were able to secure the win against Staines 3-2.

Year 5/6 Red and 5/6 White both had tough matches on the weekend, both teams went out hard and worked on their teamwork and passing. Both teams demonstrated persistence and their skills.

Great work to all teams on the weekend. We look forward to our fixture this week as we travel to Sheldon.
