Sports Results – Saturday 8th August 2020
GBC
Despite the poor weather the previous day, Saturday saw our GBC sporting teams arrive enthusiastically for a morning of internal fixtures. All players and coaches made the most of every opportunity presented to them to ensure that the morning was a huge success.
With the lower courts too wet for basketball, volleyball fixtures were rearranged to allow for basketball matches to be played in the undercover courts. Thank you to the coordinators for both volleyball and basketball for their flexibility in utilising the space available. All basketball and volleyball fixtures were extremely tight and provided fantastic entertainment to parents who watched from outside the courts.
Our touch football girls showed great skill and fitness on a water laden oval which proved to be very heavy under foot. Not only did all girls thoroughly enjoy themselves but also gained some much-needed match fitness throughout the morning. A big thank you to many of the Intermediate A girls who remained after their match to link up with the coaching powerhouse team of Matthew Joseph and Abby Vergunst as well as dad and daughter combo Warren and Morgan Newble for a highly entertaining and well fought out match against our First VI team. The senior girls were lucky to get away with a win!
A big thank you to Mr Harding and Mr Del Favero for organising games for our football boys against very skilled teams from Springfield United Football Club. Having the opportunity to play these teams at Springfield United’s superb grounds was an excellent start to the relationship we wish to build with this club to further develop our boys and girls football programs.
Facilitating a morning of sport in the current climate means that we must be highly vigilant in following our COVID-Safe protocols. Thank you to Mr Del Favero and Mrs Brown for ensuring that we were set up for the day with appropriate signage and check-in procedures and to the parents and visitors who adhered to all conditions of entry, keeping our community safe.
Such a successful morning could not have been possible without the tireless efforts of our coaches and coordinators who have been maintaining a high level of enthusiasm amongst our students during these unpredictable times. We were also very fortunate to have Jack Hogrefe capturing photo and video footage of the morning. Keep an eye out for highlights to follow.
This weekend is a bye round for GBC teams. We head to Rivermount College the following Saturday (22nd August) for what will no doubt be a very competitive morning. With this in mind, it is vital that all students attend their scheduled training sessions over the next fortnight. My best wishes for a much needed and enjoyable long weekend.
