GBC Primary

Saturday saw the first official round of the GBC Primary Season for Term 1 take place, following the pre-season round last weekend. AFL & Indoor Cricket are the sports on offer this term for GBC Primary Saturday fixtures.  Saturday’s fixtures saw TSAC teams take on teams from Redeemer Lutheran College. It was a very even morning across both sports, both Colleges enjoying 3 wins each.

In AFL, the TSAC Blue team continued the strong form it showed in the pre-season round, running away 48 point winners in its match.  At Indoor Cricket, the TSAC Navy Blue team scored an impressive 127 runs in its win, whilst the TSAC Sky Blue team went close to matching them, scoring 114 runs in its victory.

Last Saturday, 13 February saw the official kick off of GBC Sport for 2021 and what a start it was. Maybe it’s just that we’re becoming accustomed to the new way of doing things, but the day seemed to be ‘normal’ or as we once knew it. Players, officials and spectators moved on and off site happily ‘checking in’ and following Covid-Safe practices. Catering was in full swing thanks to Mr Warren Newble and Mr Richard Bannah, seeing our families enjoy quality BBQ cook ups, tasty treats and cold beverages. Mr Craig Mason and his grounds staff had our facilities in perfect condition and with the sun shining ever so gloriously, we could not have asked for a better day.

We were always in for a tough morning facing the might of Ambrose Treacy College and Brigidine College. There was never any doubt that they would provide us with extremely tough opposition, and although scores might not reflect it, our teams were very strong on both court and field. Our First’s Basketball Girls won a thrilling contest in the final seconds as did our First’s AFL Girls who have taken to the skills of our new sport very quickly. A big congratulations to these girls for their win and for their willingness to pull together and learn a game very unfamiliar to them. Our First’s Volleyball Boys also looked very sharp in their contest against ATC, taking out a thrilling second set to even up the game.

We look forward to heading to Sheldon College this coming Saturday, 20February for what will be another very tough but rewarding morning for our students. The schedule for the morning will be available by Tuesday evening, as it will for all secondary fixtures.

A big thank you to all coordinators, coaches, officials, staff, Sports Supporters Group, students and families for a fantastic start to our GBC Sporting Year. We can look ahead to a very enjoyable and successful year
