L.E.A.P. Science and Mathematics
An important strategy to support some high ability students is the opportunity to accelerate their learning in their area of strength and passion. L.E.A.P. (Learning Enrichment and Acceleration Program) as an option for high potential Year 7 students.
Students who have demonstrated high capacity can apply to this program in which they undertake a compacted curriculum in either Science or Mathematics, where they will cover the Years 7 to 9 curriculum by the end of Year 8. L.E.A.P. Science students have the option, based on achievement and academic readiness, of moving into a Year 10 Science or Mathematics class, whilst they remain with their Year 9 cohort. They can then progress through a Senior ATAR Science subject a year earlier than the rest of the cohort. This flexibility in their learning pathway offers an optimum learning environment for some high ability students. L.E.A.P. Mathematics students will complete their Years 7 to 9 core Mathematics curriculum by the end of Year 8, and will then progress to a Year 9 Extension program which is a pathway for Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics in the senior years.
